No Way Home co-writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna explain how the film’s post-credits scene opens the door to new MCU Venom appearances.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the authors of last year’s huge hit Spider-Man: No Coming Home, discussed how this movie’s post-credit scene creates the potential for Venom to appear again in the MCU. The highly anticipated film was a hit with fans and critics alike. It helped further expand the MCU’s exploration of the multiverse by featuring appearances from all three major live-action versions of Spider-Man and many returning villains from franchise history, including Willem’s Green Goblin. Dafoe, Doctor Octopus by Alfred Molina and Electro by Jamie Foxx. The film also featured a cameo appearance from Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom, transported into the MCU in a post-credits scene from Venom: Let there be carnage.
In the No coming home post-credit scene, a drunken and bewildered Eddie Brock listens to a bartender explain some of the important events and characters in the MCU. After deciding to go to New York to visit Spider-Man, who inexplicably attracts Venom, Brock and Venom are transported to their own universe, presumably by the same spell Doctor Strange used to solve the massive multiversal calamity. caused by Peter Parker. would like to become anonymous again. After Brock and Venom disappear, it is revealed that a small piece of the Venom symbiote was left behind in the MCU. He begins to slide on the bar before the credits resume.
Recently at IGN Fan Fest, the Spider-Man: No Coming Home The writers revealed that while this scene leaves the door open for future Venom appearances in the MCU, they don’t know how or if that potential will be realized. Chris McKenna also joked that Venom was a Sinister Six member who failed to leave the bar he was at. He also explained that he and Sommers had no control over the character’s future in the MCU. Erik Sommers: That leaves the door open to possibilities. Instead of seeing him return and not seeing any symbiotes. So it just allows for some interesting possibilities in the future.
Chris McKenna: I have no idea. This is above our pay grade. We are part of a bigger and bigger universe of which we are not gods, we are only mortals. I think it was a fun idea that the sixth [member of] the Sinister Six is stuck in a bar and won’t get out, but maybe he’s leaving a little something behind. Again, we are not in control of this course of this next adventure.
It seems very likely that a version of Venom will reappear in the MCU. Marvel is currently exploring the multiverse in many different properties, including this year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so it’s possible Tom Hardy’s Venom could return to the MCU via a future game-changing Calamity. It’s also possible that the piece of the symbiote that currently exists in the MCU could become a full symbiote and link to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, and then subsequently an MCU version of Eddie Brock, who has some sort of vendetta against the MCU.
