Realness Institute announces call for residency for 2022 screenwriters

The 7th Realness Institute program is open to mid-career screenwriters and industry professionals from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and all parts of the continent.

Selected screenwriters will have the opportunity to attend the Locarno Film Festival and the Academy’s creative incubation program “BaseCamp”.

One of the six selected will also participate in the festival’s industry development program. They will also engage with international and local speakers each week for the duration of the program.

The most promising projects overall will be awarded participation in the prestigious Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde in Cannes, receive a partial grant from the EAVE producers’ workshop, as well as an invitation to the TorinoFilmLab Meetings event and the Locarno Filmmakers Academy. The Realness team will develop and present programs, dedicated to development, at the AFRIFF Industry event.

We are grateful to our old partners and delighted to welcome our new ones. Nigeria is an exciting market that we have wanted to enter for a long time, so it is wonderful that our writers have the chance to showcase their projects at AFRIFF,” says Mehret Mandefro, director of development and partnerships for the Realness Institute.

Registration closes March 7 and the program will run from August 3 to November 13.
