The Screenwriters Association announces the second annual SWA Awards in association with Final Draft on February 27, 2022

The second edition of the Screenwriters Association of India (SWA) in association with Final Draft is set to be held virtually on February 27, 2022. Hailed as one of the most prestigious awards, the SWA Awards are considered the only one in the country dedicated entirely writers and lyricists of Hindi feature films, TV shows and web series.

Rather than focusing primarily on a film’s box office collection, star power, TRPs, and popularity, the SWA Awards place more emphasis on the art of screenwriting.

Judged by a panel of eminent screenwriters, SWA continues to be India’s most coveted writer. Prizes will be awarded to the best writing in 15 categories for work published during the 2020 calendar year. (January 1, 2020-December 31, 2020). Announced on January 5, 2021, nominations for the SWA Awards closed on March 7, 2021.

This year, the number of entries received in all categories includes feature films (92), lyrics (101), web series (46) and television (96). The total number of writers involved in the process (including writers who submitted their applications, jury members, committee and EC members) is close to 600. The screenwriting community is very enthusiastic about the second edition of the SWA Awards, as they enthusiastically participated in shaping this award and its motto. In short, the SWA Awards are “by writers, for writers”!

Commenting on the new edition of the SWA Awards, Mr. Robin Bhatt, President of SWA, said: “Keeping our promise even in these difficult times, we are proud to present the second edition of the SWA Awards, considered the most honest and serious . This gives an equal chance to an aspiring 20 year old and an experienced 60 year old to compete with each other and the only parameter to judge them is their writing ability and skills.

The theme for this year’s edition is equally unique, as new-age storytellers will pay homage to folk storytellers (folk artists) from India (from Kashmir to Kanyakumari) by inviting them to present their performances from across the country at the Awards. night.

Manisha Korde, Chair of the 2021 Awards Sub-Committee, said, “While the livelihoods of folk artists have suffered a major setback due to the lockdown, SWA has invited a few for this year’s ceremony, testifying of their solidarity and support.Interestingly, a great band of collaborators worked selflessly to reach inland to discover the best artists, overcoming barriers of language and Covid restrictions.

She further adds: “The sanity of the whole world was poised at the tip of writers’ pens during lockdown. When trauma ruled the world, dramas created by writers provided the escape they just needed, for people to return to their daily struggles with renewed zeal. It’s time to salute these magicians.

Satyam Tripathy, Co-Secretary of SWA said, “If the true meaning of the popular song ‘Sathi haath badhana’ is to be believed, nearly 1,000 screenwriters and lyricists have come together to create the second edition of our prestigious awards. I can actually feel the waves of excitement in the industry around the SWA Awards.

The 2021 SWA Awards ceremony will be streamed live on his YouTube channel and Facebook page on February 27, 2022.

The main event will be hosted by Swanand Kirkire and Tisca Chopra.
